Lewis Demands Smith Stop Hiding on Issue of Packing the Court on Press Call
October 11th, 2020
EAGAN, Minn. — U.S. Senate candidate Jason Lewis released the following statement following a virtual press conference today.
“Senator Tina Smith is following Joe Biden’s lead by refusing to tell the voters whether she’s on board with Democrats’ radical plans to pack the Supreme Court if and when Amy Coney Barrett is confirmed. When asked about packing the Court in our last debate she said, ‘I’m not going there.’ Let me be clear, I’m not going to let Tina Smith get away with hiding from the voters on these vital issues. Not only must Judge Barrett receive a fair hearing this week and be confirmed, but let me add that I vehemently oppose packing the Court and see it as an assault on the separation of powers and on the judicial branch.
“It’s abundantly clear that Democrats want jurists who are going to rule their way on everything from allowing late-term and post-birth abortion to allowing seizures of guns and ammunition, and if that means shredding the Constitution and adding more justices to the Supreme Court because they don’t want to play by the rules with the justices currently comprising the Court? So be it. This assault on the constitutional separation of powers is a ‘clear and present’ danger to our very system of government and is the latest sign that Democrats are changing the rules in the middle of the game and undertaking the most radical path to power in American history.”
