On Presidential Debate Day, Lewis Renews Debate Challenge with Smith
September 29th, 2020
EAGAN, Minn. — With the final scheduled debate of the Minnesota Senate race approaching, U.S. Senate candidate Jason Lewis is once again calling on Senator Tina Smith to participate in a series of debates. Smith continues to ignore Lewis’ challenge to a series of five debates across the state, denying Minnesotans the chance to hear where she stands on the issues.
“This week Senator Tina Smith and I will participate in the second debate of this cycle, and if Tina has her way, this will be the last time she speaks to Minnesotans in a joint public forum. It’s clear our Senate race is too close for comfort for Tina, so her strategy is to completely avoid any situation where she actually has to discuss the issues. Sound familiar? Tina Smith is clearly taking her cues from Joe Biden, but even Biden is emerging from the basement to debate three times, including tonight!
“In reality, it’s no wonder Tina Smith wants to hide from Minnesotans. From saying there is something ‘dangerously wrong’ with our brave policemen and women to her support for post-birth abortion, Tina Smith is waging war on our Minnesota values and she doesn’t want to have to explain her radical positions. Minnesotans deserve better. My invitation for five debates before the election still stands. I am ready and willing, and sincerely hope Senator Smith accepts, especially in the wake of the recent Supreme Court nominee, which Smith has hypocritically threatened to block.”
