Lewis Rallies Support for Filling SCOTUS Seat in Stillwater
September 23rd, 2020
STILLWATER, Minn. — U.S. Senate candidate Jason Lewis released the following statement regarding the need to fill the Supreme Court vacancy following a press conference at an early voting rally yesterday.
“Fill the seat and fill it now. The Senate—and Minnesota—have now become the last firewall to the God-given rights of life, liberty and property that are now so obviously in jeopardy. Whether it’s the left’s assault on the freedom of speech and the right to own firearms, or their newfound affinity for late term and post birth abortion, it’s imperative we have conservative jurists and responsible Senators to confirm them. That’s why my radically liberal opponent Tina Smith cannot be allowed to return to Washington for another term.
“Beyond the fact there is no precedent for not filling a Supreme Court vacancy when the White House and the Senate are controlled by the same party, the frightening threats aimed directly at our constitutional framework in the wake of Justice Ginsburg’s passing are reason enough to throw Tina Smith and her fellow radicals out of office. Tina has already repeatedly refused to say whether she’d rule out packing the court, which should be an immediate disqualifier.
“The mobs in the street appear to have been a mere warmup for a power grab unseen in American history. Never in the history of a republic has so much been riding on the confirmation of one Supreme Court justice. We must fill the seat now to stave off an unprecedented constitutional crisis, and then we must put in place a framework for confirmation of future justices who respect the Constitution, and that starts with changing Senators this fall.”
