Lewis Slams Smith for Running Disingenuous New Ad on American Jobs and Manufacturing
Smith Quietly Profiting from Chinese Holdings with Billions in Offshore Tax Havens & Companies that Outsourced Thousands of Jobs

EAGAN, Minn. — U.S. Senator Tina Smith is touting her record on American jobs and manufacturing this week in a new TV ad while dodging her family’s investments in Chinese holdings and companies that have outsourced thousands of American jobs. According to the United States Senate Financial Disclosures Report from August 2020, Tina Smith’s husband owns between $50,001 and $100,000 in stocks for YUM! Brands, Inc. out of China, which held $1.5 billion in offshore tax havens and had 26 tax haven subsidiaries in 2017. The Smiths also invested in companies that outsourced more than 17,000 jobs including 1,766 from Minnesota.
“This week, Tina Smith started running a flashy new TV commercial that swindles voters into thinking she is the candidate that supports American jobs, when the fact of the matter is she’s profiting off Chinese businesses and making money from companies that have moved jobs out of Minnesota,” said U.S. Senate candidate Jason Lewis. “A vocal critic of President Trump’s leadership in holding China accountable in Washington, Tina Smith is quietly profiting off foreign investments and the outsourcing of American jobs.
“In contrast, President Trump and I are fighting for American workers, manufacturing, jobs and a strong economy. The President helped spur half a million new manufacturing jobs during his presidency, while Joe Biden and the Obama Administration bled hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs from our economy. There’s a clear choice this November for who will fight for Minnesota jobs and the economy, and it’s not Tina Smith,” Lewis concluded.
