FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jason Lewis Reaffirms Support For Polymet, Attacks Tina Smith for Selling out Miners
WOODBURY, Minn. – U.S. Senate candidate Jason Lewis issued the following statement on the Minnesota Court of Appeals’ reversal of key permits issued to Polymet Mining Corp., reaffirming his long-standing support for the mining industry in Minnesota.
“Big government’s war on Minnesota miners sadly continues with this latest setback for Polymet. Bureaucrats, activist judges, wealthy special interest groups, and liberal politicians are doing everything in their power to delay copper and nickel mining in Minnesota, holding thousands of jobs hostage,” said Lewis. “Sadly, Senator Tina Smith, refuses to advocate for her own constituents, instead siding with the liberal, urban elites looking to put miners out of work.”
Studies show copper-nickel mining would be a massive economic boost for Northeastern Minnesota. Tapping into the state’s vast mineral deposits could add billions to Minnesota’s economy, as well as thousands of high-paying jobs. The Polymet mine alone is expected to provide upwards of 1,300 jobs.
“Just as taconite once saved the Iron Range, so could copper and nickel mining today. By tapping into our vast mineral resources – some of the largest in the world – we could revitalize our mining communities. The decision by the Court of Appeals is disappointing, and I stand with the hard working men and women on the Minnesota Iron Range as they continue to fight tooth and nail to earn a living, despite all the undue obstacles being placed before them by big government.”
